Rain, you blasted sky!

So.....let me see....what's new around here?  All kinds of things.  What's not new....the drought.  It's been getting worse in some ways...we have all kinds of watering restrictions and the worst part is, the splash pad in town has cut its hours significantly.  Bummer for the kids.   Not a bummer for me.  (High on the list of things I hate:  splash pad (besides the fact that I'm sure one of the kids will get kidnapped there some day, there's no shade, there's evil ants, and it's a long walk to the bathroom, and getting the kids to leave is a giant battle, have to bribe them with all sorts of things.)
Anyway, yesterday I read an article that was titled "Rain, you blasted sky!", (it cracked me up).  It was about some theory from the late 1800's that rain followed battles, so they came up with this idea that you could blast rain out of the sky.  So some audacious guy got a government grant way back in the day, went out to west Texas, and started blasting the sky.  Since he was a liar, he wrote back to everyone he could find that he was having great success!  Flash floods!  Gully washers!  They published his stories for months before someone actually went to check on him and found out he was a bumbling idiot.
Scott and I have been having debates about what causes rain around here.  We did get a little rain about two weeks ago.....which happened conveniently right about the same time that there was a very controversial new abortion law signed into effect.  Supposedly the new law will shut down all but five abortion clinics in the state of Texas.  So I was listening to talk radio one day, and some guy called in and said God approved of the new law and sent the rain.  (The sarcastic "progressive" guy on the show started playing the Hallelujah chorus.  The conservative gave the guy some time to talk.)  I went for the idea, so I told Scott about it.  He disagreed.  David Brummitt thinks the rain is because he just bought an expensive new pump for his well since his old one was pumping air.  (This is for irrigating his orchard.)  I think he'll get his money's worth out of the new pump either way.
 Anyway, the news around here:
1.  Jesse is rolling over.  He's so precious.  I think I can confidently say this kid is laid back.  (Big time.)  I remember when Summer started rolling over.  She fought and fought to roll over, then she'd roll like a snowball until she crashed into something.  Jesse.....not so much.
2.  I thought the rolling thing was going to be his big news of the month, but then randomly on Friday, I was holding him, glanced in his mouth "You have a tooth!  When did you get a tooth?  What in the world?"  Anyway, he has two teeth.  They both just arrived at the same time.  They didn't seem to bother him too much.  (Thankful for that.)
Lexi will be turning two on Saturday.  She got some books for an early birthday present last weekend from Dottie.  One of the books was Puff the Magic Dragon.  Who knew that was such a sad little story?  (And what kind of name is little Jackie Paper?)  I've known the "Puff the magic dragon" chorus for a long time, never knew the actual story/song.
This is the start of my braided fabric rug.  This has been a half finished project that's been hanging around for a year now.  Finally making some progress.
Oh dear, suddenly I'm getting distracted by the babies.  Think I might just post this and save the rest of my stories.  Maybe this is Divine intervention so I won't complain too much about D-Day (as in Desitin), the day Lexi painted our entire house with desitin (at least that stuff doesn't stink...and isn't hard to get out of stuff), or maybe about the imaginary walking stick (a native insect around here) in Lexi's crib.  Or about Summer knocking over the bench in the kitchen and smashing her fingers.  (Thought we were headed back to the non-urgent care in town again.)  I think she's going to be okay.
Anyway, that's all for now!  Have a great week!

(Crazy bug who came in our house one day.)
